At Skitchine Lodge world-class fishing for wild rainbow trout is just the beginning. The exceptional Skitchine experience is having your very own wilderness lake to do it.
Skitchine Lodge provides a unique wilderness experience in a surprisingly accessible location.
Skitchine Lodge is located on Dagger Lake in the Bonaparte Provincial Park, approximately 80km (50miles) northwest of Kamloops, British Columbia. Private vehicles are not allowed within the park boundaries, so access to the Lodge is arranged from a vehicle drop-off area outside the park. Total travel time from central Kamloops to the lodge is approximately two hours.
Kamloops is easily reached by airline or by vehicle. It is less than a single day drive on major highways from either Calgary or Vancouver/Seattle, and has regular scheduled flights arriving at the Kamloops Airport (YKA).
At Skitchine Lodge our unique location means that our guests and members can be fishing or relaxing in pristine wilderness the same day they travel.
Skitchine Lodge provides access to 16 lakes, all naturally populated by wild “Kamloops” rainbow trout. Most of the lakes are reached by a short walk from Dagger Lake. Yet, despite their close proximity, each lake has its own distinct personality. This unique variety is brought about through a combination of natural conditions and careful lake management programs initiated by Skitchine.
The variety makes Skitchine special. As a guest at Skitchine Lodge, you can choose between trophy lakes, fly fishing only lakes and lakes that are teaming with hungry trout. And better yet, you can have the peace and tranquility of that lake all to yourself. Of course, if you’d rather share the day with fellow guests, that’s always an option.
Most of the anglers at Skitchine are fly fishers, as the lakes provide an abundant variety of fish habitat that is well suited to the “quiet sport”. When the hatch is on the dry fly fishing can be spectacular, but wet fly and trolling methods can also be extremely effective. Light spinning tackle is popular, as well. Skitchine encourages catch and release using single barbless hooks.
Dagger Lake is the home lake of Skitchine Lodge. The boat dock at the Lodge is lined with well maintained boats; each come fully equipped with a small gas powered motor. The Skitchine staff makes sure that the boats are ready for action each day and are always on hand if guests need a little push to get started. Need anything else to make your day on the lake go smoother? Just ask. The staff is sure to be able to accommodate you.
The outlying lakes are connected to Dagger Lake by a well marked network of trails. The trails either leave directly from the Lodge, or are accessed by boat from the Lodge. Once on foot, typical walking times to the other lakes are less than 10 minutes and rarely over a half hour. The terrain is gradual and the trails are kept clear, but sturdy footwear is recommended.
Each of the outer lakes is equipped with a minimum of two well maintained boats. As the outer lakes tend to be small, the use of motors is prohibited. The pristine wilderness and your very own lake are yours to enjoy.
